Today I wish to learn along with all of you some interesting facts about Holy Week, which begins with Psalm Sunday and culminates in the celebration of Easter Sunday. I had to research this using a variety of different internet sources I will not attempt to fully credit here.
Crediting each and every source would have simply taken too long. I have taken pains to ensure I haven’t borrowed from any author anything other than information generally known to most people who practice Christianity.
Some of the information below appearing contains facts generally known to Christians everywhere and to members of both my office and me. We found the following facts to be interesting and worthy of sharing:
Did You Know
During Holy Week, Christians recall the events leading up to Jesus’ death by crucifixion and, according to their faith, his resurrection.
Did You Know
The week includes five (5) days of special significance.
Did You Know
There were significant events on days during Holy Week apart from the 5-days celebrated widely from Psalm Sunday to Easter Sunday.
Did You Know
On Monday, the day after Psalm Sunday, Jesus cleansed the temple, forcing out the money changers and vendors. Gospel of John, The Holy Bible, 2: 13-16.
Did You Know
Also on Monday, there are accounts of Jesus cursing a fig tree for not giving Him fruit. Jesus found the same tree withered on Tuesday, the next day. Gospel of Matthew, The Holy Bible, 21: 18-22.

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week on the Christian Calendar and it commemorates Jesus’ humble entry (on a donkey) into Jerusalem to observe Passover.

Maundy Thursday marks Jesus’ institution at the Last Supper of the Eucharist, thereafter a central element of Christian worship.

In the Roman Church, the Pope, on Maundy Thursday, washes the feet of 12 humble or poor people, imitating Jesus’ washing the feet of his 12 disciples at the Last Supper.

Good Friday commemorates Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross and is traditionally a day of sorrow, penance, and fasting.

Holy Saturday, also called Easter Vigil, is the traditional end of Lent and marks Jesus’ descending into Hades to deliver the good news of his victory over death.

Easter Sunday is the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, according to the Gospels, and is on the third day after His crucifixion.

The modern observance of Easter has become associated with various traditions which have little connection with religious celebrations like an Easter lamb, the Easter rabbit, and the painting of Easter eggs.

Holy Week did not begin until after the fourth century when the Nicene Creed was adopted. Prior to the adoption of the Nicene Creed, only Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday were observed.
